Nectophryne afra Buchholz and Peters In Peters, 1875, Monatsber. Preuss. Akad. Wiss. Berlin, 1875: 202. Holotype: ZMB according to Roux, 1906, Proc. Zool. Soc. London, 1906: 59, this being ZMB 8472 according to Bauer, Günther, and Klipfel, 1995, in Bauer et al. (eds.), Herpetol. Contr. W.C.H. Peters: 41. Type locality: "Cameruns" [= Cameroon].

English Names

African Tree Toad (Ananjeva, Borkin, Darevsky, and Orlov, 1988, Dict. Amph. Rept. Five Languages: 43; Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 44).

Distribution

West Africa from southwestern Nigeria to Equatorial Guinea and Gabon, also Bioko (Equatorial Guinea) and northeastern Dem. Rep. Congo.

Comment

Frétey and Blanc, 2001, Bull. Soc. Zool. France, 126: 380, reported this species from Gabon. Schiřtz, 1963, Vidensk. Medd. Dansk Naturhist. Foren., 125: 22, provided records for Nigeria. Onadeko and Rödel, 2009, Salamandra, 45: 1-14, provided records for southwestern Nigeria.
