Metaphryniscus Señaris, Ayarzagüena, and Gorzula, 1994, Publ. Asoc. Amigos Doñana, 3: 18. Type species: Metaphryniscus sosai Señaris, Ayarzagüena, and Gorzula, 1994, by original designation.

Distribution

Tepuy Marahuaca Sur, state of Amazonas, Venezuela.

Comment

Intermediate between Osornophryne and Oreophrynella according to the original publication. Barrio-Amorós, 1999 "1998", Acta Biol. Venezuelica, 18: 5-7, and Barrio-Amorós, 2004, Rev. Ecol. Latino Am., 9: 5, reported on literature and distribution for the species in Venezuela. This taxon has not been included in any of the recent large-scaled studies of bufonid relationships.
