Bufo taitanus nyikae Loveridge, 1953, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 110: 339. Holotype: MCZ 27180, by original designation. Type locality: "Nyika Plateau above Nchenachena, at 7500 feet, Nyasaland".

Nyika Dwarf Toad (Stewart and Wilson, 1966, Ann. Natal Mus., 18: 298; Broadley, 1971, Puku, 6: 111; Channing, 2001, Amph. Cent. S. Afr.: 87).

Distribution

Nyika Plateau of northern Malawi and adjacent northeastern Zambia.

Comment

Removed from the synonymy of Bufo lonnbergi by Poynton, 1997, Afr. J. Herpetol., 46: 98-102, where it had been placed by Grandison, 1972, Zool. Meded., Leiden, 47: 30-48. In the Bufo taitanus complex of Tandy and Keith, 1972, in Blair (ed.), Evol. Genus Bufo: 156. Channing, 2001, Amph. Cent. S. Afr.: 87, also provided an account.
