Melanophryniscus paraguayensis Céspedez and Motte, 2007, FACENA, 23: 33. Holotype: MNHNPA1115, by original designation. Type locality: "Departamento Central. Ytororó Country Club, 21 Km al sur de Asunción", Paraguay.

Distribution
Known only from the Departamento Central, Departamento Paraguaí, and Departamento Cordillera, Paraguay. Possibly in adjacent Argentina.
Comment
A member of the Melanophryniscus stelzneri group, most similar to Melanophryniscus cupreuscapularis, and reported as Melanophryniscus stelzneri spegazzini prior to its recognition as a species according to the original publication.
