Melanophryniscus devincenzii Klappenbach, 1968, Comun. Zool. Mus. Hist. Nat. Montevideo, 9: 7. Holotype: MHNM 1675, by original designation. Type locality: "La Palma, Rubio Chico, próximo a Subida de Pena, Cuchilla Negra, departamento de Rivera, República del Uruguay".

Distribution

Departments of Rivera and Tacuarembó, northeastern Uruguay; Misiones and Corrientes provinces, northern Argentina; and the Municipality of Sertão, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil; to Guairá and Itapúa departments, south-central Paraguay.

Baldo and Krauczuk, 1999, Cuad. Herpetol., 13: 101, provided the record for Argentina. Langone, 1995 "1994", Mus. Damaso Antonio Larrañaga, Ser. Divulg. 5: 34-35, and Achaval and Olmos, 2003, Anf. Rept. Uruguay, ed. 2: 15, provided for the Uruguayan population a brief account. Zanella, Busin, Giusti, Leonardo, and Oliveira, 2007, Check List, 3: 104, provided the first record for Brazil. Brusquetti and Lavilla, 2006, Cuad. Herpetol., 20: 27, suggested that this species likely occurs in adjacent Paraguay. Maneyro and Kwet, 2008, Stuttgart. Beit. Naturkd., Ser. A, Neue Ser., 1: 95-121, suggested that the Argentinian population might represent an unnamed species.
