Siphonops brasiliensis Lütken, 1851, Vidensk. Medd. Dansk Naturhist. Foren., 1851: 52. Holotype: ZMUC 11 RO-237, according to Taylor, 1968, Caecilians of the World: 588; now ZMUC R. 0237 by museum records (personal commun., H. Kristensen, 24 Nov. 2010). Type locality: "Brasilien"; corrected to Săo Paulo, Brazil, by Taylor, 1973, Univ. Kansas Sci. Bull., 50: 226, and this confirmed by museum records.

Dermophis brasiliensis — Peters, 1880 "1879", Monatsber. Preuss. Akad. Wiss. Berlin, 1879: 938.

Siphonops confusionis Taylor, 1968, Caecilians of the World: 560. Holotype: MCZ 2482, by original designation. Type locality: "Petrópolis, [Rio de Janeiro,] Brasil". Synonymy by Nussbaum, 1986, J. Herpetol., 20: 441-444.

Distribution

State of Săo Paulo, Brazil, southwest to Misiones Province, Argentina; likely in southern Paraguay.

Argentina record by Heer and Lanari, 1998, Herpetol. Rev., 29: 244. Brusquetti and Lavilla, 2006, Cuad. Herpetol., 20: 7, briefly discussed the range in Paraguay. Mott, Moura, Maciel, and Feio, 2011, Phyllomedusa, 10: 153-163, reported on morphological variation and range.
