Ichthyophis garoensis Pillai and Ravichandran, 1999, Rec. Zool. Surv. India, Occas. Pap., 172: 28. Holotype: ZSI-S 18458, by original designation; now amalgamated into ZSIC. Type locality: "Anogiri Lake, Garo Hills, Meghalaya", India.

Garo Hills, Meghalaya, to Assam, India.

Choudhury, Hussain, Buruah, Saikia, and Sengupta, 2002, Hamadryad, 26: 279-280, commented on the range in Assam, India. Chanda, 2002, Handb. Indian Amph.: 207, provided a brief account. Ravichandran, 2004, Hamadryad, 28: 98-104, summarized range. Ahmed, Das, and Dutta, 2009, Amph. Rept. NE India: 53, provided a brief account. Kamei, Wilkinson, Gower, and Biju, 2009, Zootaxa, 2267: 26-42, did not map Assam as part of the range. Mathew and Sen, 2009, Rec. Zool. Surv. India, Occas. Pap., 309: 16-17, reported on additional specimens. Mathew and Sen, 2010, Pict. Guide Amph. NE India: 128-130, provided a brief characterization and photograph.
