Dermophis gracilior Günther, 1902, Biol. Centr. Amer., Rept. Batr., Part 164: 306. Holotype: BMNH 1946.9.5.33 (formerly 1901.12.19.137), according to Taylor, 1968, Caecilians of the World: 481. Type locality: "Panama, Chiriqui".

Dermophis mexicanus gracilior — Dunn, 1928, Proc. New England Zool. Club, 10: 73.

Distribution

Humid Pacific lowlands and premontane slopes of Costa Rica and western Panama; premontane zone of Atlantic slope Costa Rica and southern lower monte belt of the Cordillera de Talamanca, 404-2000 m elevation.

Removed from the synonymy of Dermophis mexicanus by Savage and Wake, 2001, Copeia, 2001: 52-64, where it had been placed by Savage and Wake, 1972, Copeia, 1972: 680-695. See account by Savage, 2002, Amph. Rept. Costa Rica: 117-118, 839.
