Caecilia polyzona Fischer In Peters, 1880 "1879", Monatsber. Preuss. Akad. Wiss. Berlin, 1879: 936. Syntypes: ZMB 9524, NHMW 9141, AMNH 23499 (although only 2 specimens in ZMB mentioned in original publication and by Fischer, 1880, Arch. Naturgesch., 46: 216—DRF); ZMB 9524 designated lectotype by Taylor, 1969, Univ. Kansas Sci. Bull., 48: 282. Type locality: "Caceres [= Cáceres], Provinz Antioquia (Neu Granada)", Colombia.

English Names

New Granada Caecilian (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 24).

Distribution

Valleys of the Magdalena and Cauca rivers as well as in Chocó, northern Colombia; expected in adjacent Panama.

Also described as new by Fischer, 1880, Arch. Naturgesch., 46: 215. Taylor, 1969, Univ. Kansas Sci. Bull., 48: 283-285, discussed this species. See comments by Bauer, Good, and Günther, 1993, Mitt. Zool. Mus. Berlin, 69: 286, regarding the description and the types. Lynch, 2000 "1999", Rev. Acad. Colomb. Cienc. Exact. Fis. Nat., 23: 330, commented on the range and provided a map.
