Caecilia degenerata Dunn, 1942, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 91: 505. Holotype: MCZ 17838; not 17384 as stated in the description, according to Taylor, 1968, Caecilians of the World: 370. Type locality: "Garagoa, [Estado Boyacá,] eastern Colombia".

Eastern and western slopes of the Cordillera Oriental in Boyacá and Cundinamarca, Colombia, 800-2100 m elevation.
Lynch, 2000 "1999", Rev. Acad. Colomb. Cienc. Exact. Fis. Nat., 23: 324, suggested that this species is restricted to the eastern Andes of Colombia, with specimens from Cundinamarca.
