Salamandra salamandra longirostris Joger and Steinfartz, 1994, Abh. Ber. Naturkd. Magdeburg, 17: 95. Holotype: HLMD RA 2201, by original designation and according to Köhler and Güsten, 2007, Spixiana, München, 30: 277. Type locality: "Umgebung des Ortes Grazalema in der Sierra de Ronda, Südspanien".
Salamandra (Salamandra) longirostris — Dubois and Raffaëlli, 2009, Alytes, 26: 69.
None noted.
Sierra de Ronda in the provinces of Cadiz and Malaga, southern Spain.
Speybroeck and Crochet, 2007, Podarcis, 8: 10, noted that Salamandra salamandra longirostris, the southern Spain population probably represented a distinct species. This was formalized by Dubois and Raffaëlli, 2009, Alytes, 26: 36, who provided the rationale for this recognition. Prior to 2009, the literature of this taxon is imbedded within that of Salamandra salamandra. Speybroeck, Beukema, and Crochet, 2010, Zootaxa, 2492: 4, discussed the ambiguities in the recognition of this taxon and retained it as a subspecies of Salamandra salamandra regardless of the allopatric ranges and molecular differentiation.
