Dubois and Raffaëlli, 2009, Alytes, 26: 48, recognized this taxon in order to render a monophyletic Paramesotriton. Gu, Wang, Chen, Tian, and Li, 2012, Zootaxa, 3150: 59-68, recovered a monophyletic Laotriton + Paramesotriton, obviating the need to recognize Laotriton separate from Paramesotriton.
