Phryniscus proboscideus Boulenger, 1882, Cat. Batr. Sal. Coll. Brit. Mus., Ed. 2: 150, pl. 13, fig. 1. Syntypes: BMNH 69.2.22.8, 69.11.3.24, 69.11.3.28, according to M.S. Hoogmoed in Frost, 1985, Amph. Species World: 76. Type locality: "Bahia", Brazil. Stated to be "Probably in the vicinity of [Salvador]", Bahia, Brazil by Feio, Pimenta, and Silvano, 2003, Amphibia-Reptilia, 24: 108. Junior secondary homonym of Bufo proboscidea Spix, 1824.

Rhinella boulengeri Chaparro, Pramuk, Gluesenkamp, and Frost, 2007, Copeia, 2007: 1027. Replacement name for Phryniscus proboscideus Boulenger, 1882, a junior homonym of Bufo proboscideus Spix, 1824, in Rhinella.

English Names

Distribution

Isolated records in fragments of Atlantic Forest in eastern Bahia (Salvador, Fazenda Boa Sorte, and Uruçuca) and northeastern Minas Gerais (Fazenda Limoeiro), Brazil.

Feio, Pimenta, and Silvano, 2003, Amphibia-Reptilia, 24: 108-112, reported on new localities other than the type locality. Silva, Lourenço-de-Moraes, Siqueira, and Solé, 2011, Check List, 7: 825-826 provided a range extension within Bahia (as Rhinella boulengeri).
