Related to Dendrophryniscus brevipollicatus according to the original publication. Cruz and Fusinatto, 2008, S. Am. J. Herpetol., 3: 25, commented on the range. Fusinatto, Cruz, and Garcia, 2008, Check List, 4: 248-250, provided additional records for the states of Santa Catarina and Paraná, Brazil.
