Type locality: "roadside bank along the road to las Lajas Microwave Station, 15 km (by rd) S Highway 140 from las Vigas, Veracruz, Mexico (19° 35.5′ N, 97° 05.7′ W, 3000 m elevation)".
Cofre de Perote Salamander (original publication; Liner and Casas-Andreu, 2008, Herpetol. Circ., 38: 34).
Known only from a narrow ridge extending east from Cofre de Perote and terminating in a small peak (Cerro Volcancillo) at the type locality, in the Sierra Madre Oriental in central Veracruz, Mexico, 2500-3000 m elevation.
In the Pseudoeurycea bellii complex, related to Pseudoeurycea gigantea, according to the original publication. Raffaëlli, 2007, Les Urodèles du Monde: 221, provided a brief account, photograph, and map, and considered it to be in the Pseudoeurycea bellii complex of the Pseudoeurycea bellii group.
