Wiens, Parra-Olea, García-París, and Wake, 2007, Proc. R. Soc. London, Ser. B, Biol. Sci., 274: 918-928, provided evidence that Parvimolge is imbedded within a paraphyletic Pseudoeurycea. (This paraphyly will necessitate either synonymy of Pseudoeurycea and Parvimolge or partition of Pseudoeurycea to remedy this problem. Unfortunately, Parvimolge and Pseudoeurycea were named in the same publication and as yet, no priority has been asserted by any "first revisor"; DRF suggests that Pseudoeurycea be given priority to preserve usage, should the more inclusive taxon be treated as a genus. Alternatively, Ixalotriton could be placed in synonymy with Parvimolge as part of a partition of Pseudoeurycea.) Pyron and Wiens, 2011, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 61: 543-583, in their study of Genbank sequences, conclused that Parvimolge is likely the sister taxon of Pseudoeurycea (sensu lato).
