Type locality: "200 yards north of El Empalme, on the Pan American Highway south of Cartago in the northern end of the Cordillera de Talamanca, Canton de Dota [in error, Cantón de El Guarco], Provincia de Cartago, Costa Rica, at 2286 m (7500 ft) elevation". Savage, 1974, Rev. Biol. Tropical, 22: 90, commented on the type locality.
