Type locality: "Red River, Arkansas", USA; corrected to "Red River in eastern Oklahoma" by Dunn, 1926, Salamanders Fam. Plethodontidae: 314; restricted to "near Fort Towson, Choctaw County, Oklahoma", USA, by Dundee, 1950, Herpetologica, 6: 27-28, who discussed the type locality.

Ouachita Mountains of west-central Arkansas and southeastern Oklahoma, USA.

Comment

Reviewed by Dundee, 1965, Cat. Am. Amph. Rept., 21: 1-2 (in the sense of including Eurycea multiplicata griseogaster, which is now in the synonymy of Eurycea tynerensis). Bonett and Chippindale, 2004, Mol. Ecol., 13: 1189-1203, revised the concept of the species to exclude former Eurycea multiplicata griseogaster, which they placed in the synonymy of Eurycea tynerensis. Raffaëlli, 2007, Les Urodèles du Monde: 183, provided a brief account, photograph, and map.
