Bolitoglossa lavae Taylor, 1942, Univ. Kansas Sci. Bull., 28: 295. Holotype: EHT-HMS 28937, by original designation; now FMNH 100118 according to Marx, 1976, Fieldiana, Zool., 69: 37. Type locality: "2 miles west of La Joya, Veracruz", Mexico.

Distribution
Known only from pine-oak woodland and cloud forest in the vicinity of Tostlacuaya and La Joya, central-western Veracruz, Mexico, 1200 m elevation.

Raffaëlli, 2007, Les Urodèles du Monde: 231, provided a brief account, photograph, and map, and who noted an unnamed species under this name.
