Distribution

Humid lowlands and lower premontane slopes (20-140 m) of the Atlantic versant from eastern Honduras through eastern Nicaragua to central Costa Rica.

Comment

Formerly in the Bolitoglossa striatula group; this species was reassigned to the Bolitoglossa mexicana group by García-París, Parra-Olea, and Wake, 2000, in Bruce et al., Biol. Plethodontid Salamanders: 199-214. In the subgenus Bolitoglossa of Parra-Olea, García-París, and Wake, 2004, Biol. J. Linn. Soc., 81: 335, formerly the Bolitoglossa mexicana group. See comment under Bolitoglossa mombachoensis. See accounts by Savage, 2002, Amph. Rept. Costa Rica: 138-139, and McCranie and Wilson, 2002, Amph. Honduras: 131-133.
