Hist. Nat.: 9; MNHNP 6398 is lectotype by implication due to consideration as holotype by Thireau, 1986, Cat. Types Urodeles Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat., Rev. Crit.: 16 (who regarded Guibé's syntype designations as in error); also so designated by García-París, Parra-Olea, Brame, and Wake, 2002, Rev. Esp. Herpetol., 16: 64. Type locality: "volcán d'Attitlan [= Atitlán]", Guatemala. Thireau, 1986, Cat. Types Urodeles Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat., Rev. Crit.: 16, quoted D.B. Wake as considering MNHNP 6398 to be a representative of Bolitoglossa salvinii and MNHNP 6499 to be a representation of Bolitoglossa flaviventris. Synonymy by D.B. Wake in Thireau, 1986, Cat. Types Urodeles Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat., Rev. Crit.: 16, via the lectotype designation.

Distribution

Upper coastal plain and moderate elevations (600-1250 m elevation) of the Pacific slopes of southern Guatemala and El Salvador.

Comment

In the subgenus Bolitoglossa of Parra-Olea, García-París, and Wake, 2004, Biol. J. Linn. Soc., 81: 335, formerly the Bolitoglossa mexicana group. Savage, 2002, Amph. Rept. Costa Rica: 138, noted that records of Bolitoglossa salvinii from Costa Rica are based on Bolitoglossa striatula.
