Bolitoglossa pygmaea Bolaños and Wake, 2009, Zootaxa, 1981: 58. Holotype: UCR 11788, by original designation. Type locality: "Fábrega Massif (coordinates 9°07′00″ N, 82°52′40″ W) at 3100 m elevation, Provincia de Bocas del Toro, Panamá".

Grass tussocks in an open area in a small region called the Fábrega Massif, a general plateau with a mean elevation above 3000 m in Panama, along the continental divide/Panama (Bocas del Toro Province)--Costa Rica (Puntarenas Province) border; likely to be found in Costa Rica.
In the Bolitoglossa (Eladinea) subpalmata species group according to the original publication.
