Distribution
The cloud forests of the Atlantic drainage of the mountains of eastern Alta Verapaz, east to the Montañas del Mico, Guatemala, 100-1200 m elevation; presumably to be found in adjacent western Honduras.
Comment
In the subgenus Bolitoglossa of Parra-Olea, García-París, and Wake, 2004, Biol. J. Linn. Soc., 81: 335, formerly the Bolitoglossa mexicana group. In the Bolitoglossa mexicana group according to García-París, Parra-Olea, and Wake, 2000, in Bruce et al., Biol. Plethodontid Salamanders: 199-214. Campbell, 1998, Amph. Rept. N. Guatemala Yucatan Belize: 38, suggested that Bolitoglossa odonnelli might be conspecific with Bolitoglossa mexicana. García-París, Parra-Olea, Brame, and Wake, 2002, Rev. Esp. Herpetol., 16: 49, considered this species to be phylogenetically in a polytomy with Bolitoglossa lignicolor, Bolitoglossa alberchi, and a group composed of Bolitoglossa striatula, Bolitoglossa mombachoensis, Bolitoglossa yucatana, and Bolitoglossa mexicana.
