Highlands of eastern Guatemala southeast of the Río Motagua, possibly extending into adjacent Honduras.
The sister taxon of the Bolitoglossa rufescens group + Bolitoglossa hartwegi group, and confused with Bolitoglossa rufescens prior to its naming according to the original publication. Populations of nominal Bolitoglossa rufescens reported from Honduras may represent this species or closely-related ones (DRF).
