Type locality: "14.0 km NW junction of San Mateo Ixtatán-Barillas road to Nentón, Huehuetenango, Guatemala, at 2780 m elevation (15.891944° N, 91.564166° W)".

Known only from the type locality in the Sierra Cuchumatanes, Huehuetenango, Guatemala.
Confused with Bolitoglossa cuchumatana prior to its naming according to Campbell, Smith, Streicher, Acevedo, and Brodie, 2010, Misc. Publ. Mus. Zool. Univ. Michigan, 200: 22, who also noted (p. 32) that the species is probably closely related to Bolitoglossa rostrata.
