Xenobius Zhang and Hu, 1985, Acta Herpetol. Sinica, Chengdu, N.S.,, 4 (1): 36. Type species: Xenobius melanonychus Zhang and Hu, 1985, by original designation. Preoccupied by Xenobius Borgmeier, 1931 (Coleoptera). Provisional synonymy by Zhao, Hu, Jiang, and Yang, 1988, Studies on Chinese Salamanders: 63.

Sinobius Dubois, 1987, Alytes, 6: 10. Replacement name for Xenobius Zhang and Hu, 1985.

English Names

Shangcheng Salamanders (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 28).

Distribution

Southeastern Henan, southwestern Hubei, and western Anhui, China.

Comment

Xiong, Qin, Zeng, Zhao, and Qing, 2007, J. Herpetol., 41: 664-671, discussed the phylogenetic placement of this taxon. Pyron and Wiens, 2011, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 61: 543-583, suggested that Pachyhynobius is the sister taxon of Salamandrella.
