Known only from the lost holotype from 'Between Samarkand and Pamirs', likely either in Kyrgyzstan or Tajikistan, but possibly in Uzbekistan.

Nord: 75, considered this a synonym of Hynobius keyserlingii (= Salamandrella keyserlingii of this list). Andrushko, 1974, Vestn.
