Comment

Removed from the synonymy of Hynobius formosanus by Ye, Fei, and Hu, 1993, Rare and Economic Amph. China: 21, where it had been placed by Sato, 1943, Monogr. Tailed Batr. Japan: 97. Earlier references likely have confounded these species. Redescribed by Maki, 1928, Annot. Zool. Japon., 11: 132-133. See Fei, 1999, Atlas Amph.
