Telmatobius verrucosus Werner, 1899, Zool. Anz., 22: 482. Holotype: NHMW 22921, acording to De la Riva, 2005, in Lavilla and De la Riva (eds.), Monogr. Herpetol., 7: 88, who noted that the previous statements about NHMW 22922 being the type (e.g., Häupl and Tiedemann, 1978, Kat. Wiss. Samml. Naturhist. Mus. Wien, 2: 29, and Häupl, Tiedemann, and Grillitsch, 1994, Kat. Wiss. Samml. Naturhist. Mus. Wien, 9: 34) are in error. Type locality: "Chaco, Bolivia"; corrected to Chaco, on the Unduavi River, 25 km northwest of Puente de la Via, La Paz, Bolivia, by Schmidt, 1954, Fieldiana, Zool., 34: 284. De la Riva, 2005, in Lavilla and De la Riva (eds.), Monogr. Herpetol., 7: 88, suggested that the actual type locality must be at higher elevation than the stated location.

Type locality: "el Río Chairo, en las proximadades de la Mina Copacabana (aproximadamente 16° 16′ S 67° 50′ W), Kkota Pata, Departamento La Paz, Bolivia". Synonymy by De la Riva, 2005, in Lavilla and De la Riva (eds.), Monogr. Herpetol., 7: 88.

Distribution

Hillsides of Mount Illimani (Lambate) to the Quelhuacota Valley, near Charazani, a range of about 2000 km, in the Department of La Paz, Bolivia, 2900-3800 m elevation.

Removed from the synonymy of Telmatobius marmoratus by De la Riva, Köhler, Lötters, and Reichle, 2000, Rev. Esp. Herpetol., 14: 50, and De la Riva, 2005, in Lavilla and De la Riva (eds.), Monogr. Herpetol., 7: 86-89 (who provided an account), where it had been placed by Vellard, 1969 "1968", Bull. Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat. Paris, Ser. 2, 40: 1112. De la Riva, 2005, in Lavilla and De la Riva (eds.), Monogr. Herpetol., 7: 88-89, discussed errors in the literature due to the misidentification of the type and other serious problems in the history of delimiting this taxon.
