Type locality: "Riachuelo pedregoso, cerca de Caina (Huánuco) 3,600 m. ", Peru. Subspecies rejected by Sinsch, Salas, and Canales, 1995, Alytes, 13: 38.

Comment

Vellard, 1955, Mem. Mus. Hist. Nat. Javier Prado, 4: 20-23, discussed variation in the three subspecies. Subspecies were rejected by Sinsch, Salas, and Canales, 1995, Alytes, 13: 38, but Lehr, 2005, in Lavilla and De la Riva (eds.), Monogr. Herpetol., 7: 46-49, subsequently recognized Telmatobius brevirostris punctatus as Telmatobius punctatus.
