Comment

Nussbaum, Jaslow, and Watson, 1982, J. Herpetol., 16: 198-203, and Green, Nussbaum, and Yang, 1988, Herpetologica, 44: 113-119, discussed phylogeny within this taxon and implied that Sooglossus is paraphyletic with respect to Nesomantis. Frost, Grant, Faivovich, Bain, Haas, Haddad, de Sá, Channing, Wilkinson, Donnellan, Raxworthy, Campbell, Blotto, Moler, Drewes, Nussbaum, Lynch, Green, and Wheeler, 2006, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 297: 192, placed Nesomantis into the synonymy of Sooglossus to render a monophyletic Sooglossus, although Sooglossus was subsequently partitioned into Sechellophryne (including Nesomantis) and Sooglossus by Nussbaum and Wu, 2007, Zool. Stud., Taipei, 46: 322-335.
