Closed-canopy tropical forests in mountain areas in Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Quang Nam-Da Nang, and Thua Thien-Hue provinces, Vietnam, at elevations of 400 to 1700 m.
In the Rhacophorus calcaneus group of Orlov, Poyarkov, Vassilieva, Ananjeva, Nguyen, Sang, and Geissler, 2012, Russ. J. Herpetol., 19:23-64. Confused with Rhacophorus calcaneus prior to its naming. The original publication noted the following localities (originally as Rhacophorus calcaneus) as doubtful: Tam Dao, Vinh Phuc and Huong Son, Ha Tinh (likely based on Rhacophorus orlovi); Chu Yang Sin, Dak Lake and Bidoup, Lac Duong, Lam Dong (likely based on Rhacophorus vampyrus); Da Teh, Lam Dong (likely confused with Rhacophorus rhodopus).
