Philautus charius Rao, 1937, Proc. Indian Acad. Sci., Ser. B, 6: 405. Holotype: CCB; now lost according to Dubois, 1984, Alytes, 3: 157; Bossuyt and Dubois, 2001, Zeylanica, 6: 48, who designated MNHNP 1999.5597 neotype and described it on page 82-83. Type locality: "Kottigehar, Kadur", Karnataka, India. Neotype from "Chikmalagur (roughly 35 km North-East of Kottigehar, Karnataka", India.

Distribution

Southwestern India in the Western Ghats (Chikmagalur, Muthodi, Mercara, and Kottigehara, Karnataka) in evergreen and semievergreen rainforests, 800-1200 m elevation.
