Known only from the type locality (Galle, south coastal Sri Lanka).

Removed from the synonymy of Philautus microtympanum by Manamendra-Arachchi and Pethiyagoda, 2005, Raffles Bull. Zool., Suppl., 12: 214, where it had been placed by Wolf, 1936, Bull. Raffles Mus., 12: 174. Manamendra-Arachchi and Pethiyagoda, 2005, Raffles Bull. Zool., Suppl., 12: 214, provided an account and noted that this species is extinct.
