Philautus regius Manamendra-Arachchi and Pethiyagoda, 2005, Raffles Bull. Zool., Suppl., 12: 246. Holotype: WHT 3122, by original designation. Type locality: "Angammadilla, Polonnaruwa, alt. 90 m (07° 51′ N, 80° 55′ E)", Sri Lanka.

Distribution
Known only from the vicinity of Polonnaruwa in shrubby habitats in northeast-central Sri Lanka.
Comment
Most similar to Philautus fergusonianus according to the original publication. De Silva, 2009, Amph. Rep. Sri Lanka Photograph. Guide: 111, provided a brief account and color photograph.
