Atelopus tamaense La Marca, García-Pérez, and Renjifo, 1990 "1989", Caldasia, 16: 97. Holotype: ULABG 1820, by original designation. Type locality: "Venezuela: Estado Apure, Distrito Páez Cercanías del 'Boquerón del río Oirá', Páramo de Tamá, Parque Nacional El Tamá, aproximadamente 7° 25′ N y 72° 23′ W, 2950 m".

English Names

Venezuela Stubfoot Toad (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 40).

Tamá Harlequin Toad (Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 176).

Distribution

Known only from the type locality which sits astride the border between Venezuela (Apure) and Colombia (Norte de Santander), likely to be found extending into the state of Táchira, Venezuela.

Comment

In the Atelopus ignescens group according to the original publication. Likely in the Atelopus flavescens group according to Lynch, 1993, Alytes, 11: 84. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 177. The species name is a noun in apposition and not emendable. La Marca and Renjifo, 2005, in Rueda-Almonacid et al. (eds.), Ranas Arlequines: 114, provided a brief account, photograph, and map.
