Toad Genus Atelopus: 45; now FMNH 178224 according to Marx, 1976, Fieldiana, Zool., 69: 44. Type locality: "near [Desengaño] pass between Volcán Poás and Volcán Barba, western slope Volcán Poás, Pacific drainage, elev. app. 6800 ft.", Cantón de Santa Barbara, Provincia de Heredia, 2073 m elevation, Costa Rica. Savage, 1974, Rev. Biol. Tropical, 22: 89, commented on the type locality.

Distribution

Humid montane forest in central Costa Rica in the Cordilleras Volcánica and Talamanca in Costa Rica, 1100-2200 m elevation.
