BMNH 1947.2.27.43 considered holotype (implied fixation as lectotype) by Dring, 1987, Amphibia-Reptilia, 8: 47, and formally designated lectotype by Bossuyt and Dubois, 2001, Zeylanica, 6: 37, and described by them on page 81. Type locality: "Larut Hills at 4000 feet", Perak, Malaya (Malaysia).

Ixalus brevipes Boulenger, 1908, J. Fed. Malay States Mus., 3: 63. Holotype: BMNH 1947.2.6.22 (formerly 1906.2.28.51) according to Bossuyt and Dubois, 2001, Zeylanica, 6: 39. Type locality: "Gunong Tahan, [Pahang,] at 3000 ft. [elevation]", Malaya, Malaysia. Synonymy by Smith, 1930, Bull. Raffles Mus., 3: 116; Bourret, 1942, Batr. Indochine: 458.

Discussed by Bourret, 1942, Batr. Indochine: 458-459. See accounts in Berry, 1975, Amph. Fauna Peninsular Malaysia: 95-96, and Dring, 1979, Bull. Brit. Mus. (Nat. Hist.), Zool., 34: 208-210 (who placed it in a different group of species from Philautus aurifasciatus). Iskandar, 1998, Amph. Java Bali: 86, regarded this taxon as likely conspecific with Philautus aurifasciatus. See identification table by Manthey and Grossmann, 1997, Amph. Rept. Südostasiens: 122-123, to compare this species to other rhacophorids of the Sunda Shelf region. Chan-ard, 2003, Photograph. Guide Amph.
