Philautus mjöbergi Smith, 1925, Sarawak Mus. J., 3: 11. Holotype: M. Smith 7265, by original designation; now BMNH 1825.9.1.1 according to XXX. Type locality: "Mount Murud.... 7000 feet", Fourth Division, Sarawak [Malaysia], Borneo.

Murud Bubble-nest Frog (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 112).

Distribution

Forested mountains from 1500 to 3000 m in northern Borneo (Kalimantan, Indonesia, and Sabah and Sarawak, Malaysia).

Comment

In the Philautus aurifasciatus group and resurrected from the synonymy of Philautus aurifasciatus (where it had been placed by Inger, 1966, Fieldiana, Zool., 52: 341) by Dring, 1987, Amphibia-Reptilia, 8: 38-41. See comment under Philautus aurifasciatus. See brief account by Malkmus and Riede, 1996, Sauria, Berlin, 18: 27-37. See identification table by Manthey and Grossmann, 1997, Amph. Rept. Südostasiens: 122-123, to compare this species to other rhacophorids of the Sunda Shelf region. Malkmus, Manthey, Vogel, Hoffmann, and Kosuch, 2002, Amph. Rept. Mount Kinabalu: 187-189, provided an account. Art. 32.5.2 ( ICZN, 1999, Internatl. Code Zool. Nomencl., Ed. 4) restricts the exchange of ö for oe to German words; Mjöberg is Swedish.
