Ixalus cinerascens Stoliczka, 1870, Proc. Asiat. Soc. Bengal, 1870: 275. Syntypes: Several noted, but ZSIC 2716 considered holotype by Sclater, 1892, List Batr. Indian Mus.: 20, although Chanda, Das, and Dubois, 2001 "2000", Hamadryad, 25: 112, noted four specimens under this number. Annandale, 1908, Rec. Indian Mus., 2: 305, considered the ZSIC to have "the type". Type locality: "Ataran river, east of Moulmein (Tenasserim Province)", Myanmar; restricted to probably the Dawna Hills inland from Moulmein by Annandale, 1913, Rec. Indian Mus., 9: 304.

Known only from the type locality (Tenasserim Province, Myanmar).
Provisionally included as a synonym of Megophrys lateralis by Gorham, 1966, Das Tierreich, 85: 19, and as a synonym of Megophrys major by Bourret, 1942, Batr. Indochine: 199. Sclater, 1892, Proc. Zool. Soc. London, 1892: 347, examined the type and regarded it as a "true Ixalus". Resurrected by Broadley, 1971, Puku, 6: 112, and Bossuyt and Dubois, 2001, Zeylanica, 6: 23.
