Philautus aurantium Inger, 1989, Malayan Nat. J., 42: 239. Holotype: FMNH 233224, by original designation. Type locality: "Mendolong, Sipitang District, Sabah", Malaysia (Borneo).

Philautus aurantium montanum Malkmus, 1996, Mitt. Zool. Mus. Berlin, 72: 286. Nomen nudum. Junior homonym of Philautus montanus Taylor, 1920, and Philautus montanus Rao, 1937.

English Names

Mendolong Bubble-nest Frog (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 111).

Distribution

Mount Kinabalu region of western Sabah, Malaysia (Borneo), at elevations of 750-1800 m.

Comment

In the Philautus vermiculatus group, most similar to Philautus acutus, according to the original publication. See comment under Philautus gunungensis. See identification table by Manthey and Grossmann, 1997, Amph. Rept. Südostasiens: 122-123, to compare this species to other rhacophorids of the Sunda Shelf region. Malkmus, Manthey, Vogel, Hoffmann, and Kosuch, 2002, Amph. Rept. Mount Kinabalu: 181-182, provided an account.
