Philautus amoenus Smith, 1931, Bull. Raffles Mus., 5: 18. Holotype: BMNH 1947.2.6.6 (formerly 1929.12.22.25) according to Bossuyt and Dubois, 2001, Zeylanica, 6: 47. Type locality: "Kamborangah, alt. 7,200 feet", Mount Kina Balu, Sabah, Malaysia (Borneo).

English Names

Kamboranga Bubble-nest Frog (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 111).

Distribution

Mossy forest (900-3000 m elevation) on Mount Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia (Borneo).

Comment

Probably synonymous with Philautus aurifasciatus according to Inger, 1966, Fieldiana, Zool., 52: 340-341. Possibly synonymous with Philautus mjobergi according to Dring, 1987, Amphibia-Reptilia, 8: 37. Species status confirmed by Malkmus and Riede, 1996, Sauria, Berlin, 18: 27-37. See identification table by Manthey and Grossmann, 1997, Amph. Rept. Südostasiens: 122-123, to compare this species to other rhacophorids of the Sunda Shelf region. Malkmus, Manthey, Vogel, Hoffmann, and Kosuch, 2002, Amph. Rept. Mount Kinabalu: 179-181, provided an account.
