Southeastern Xizang Yunnan, Guizhou, Hainan, and Guangxi, China; Lao Cai and Ha Giang provinces, Vietnam; Sepian, Boloven Highlands, Champasak Province, Laos; expected in eastern Myanmar.
Comment
Similar to Philautus microtympanum according to the original publication. Previously confused with Chinese "Philautus cavirostris" (e.g., Liu and Hu, 1960 "1959", Acta Zool. Sinica, 11: 526-527; Jiang, Hu, and Zhao, 1987, Acta Herpetol. Sinica, Chengdu, N.S.,, 6 (1): 27-42; see Pseudophilautus cavirostris account for discussion of misidentification). See accounts by Ye, Fei, and Hu, 1993, Rare and Economic Amph. China: 320; and Fei, 1999, Atlas Amph. China: 252. Orlov, Murphy, Ananjeva, Ryabov, and Ho, 2002, Russ. J. Herpetol., 9: 98, commented on the Vietnamese distribution and suggested that these specimens represent Rhacophorus verrucosus. Bain and Nguyen, 2004, Am. Mus. Novit., 3453: 25-26, provided the record for Ha Giang Province, Vietnam. Teynié, David, Ohler, and Luanglath, 2004, Hamadryad, 29: 37, provided a record and comments for Laos. Yu, Rao, Zhang, and Yang, 2009, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 50: 571-579, noted that specimens from the type locality and those from Vietnam clustered in a molecular analysis in different places within Kurixalus. Fei, Hu, Ye, and Huang, 2009, Fauna Sinica, Amph. 2: 678-682, provided an account for China (as Aquixalus odontotarsus) and spot map. Li, Che, Murphy, Zhao, Zhao, Rao, and Zhang, 2009, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 53: 520, suggested that the specimen (and tissues) identified as Kurixalus odontotarsus by Delorme, Dubois, Grosjean, and Ohler, 2005, Bull. Mens. Soc. Linn. Lyon, 74: 166, are actually Gracixalus carinense. Yu, Zhang, and Yang, 2010, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 56: 942-950, verified the distinctiveness of this species from Kurixalus bisacculus and Kurixalus verrucosus and, on the basis of molecular evidence suggested that populations reported from Xizang, China, should be transferred to Kurixalus verrucosus. Fei, Ye, and Jiang, 2010, Colored Atlas of Chinese Amph.: 436, provided a brief account for China (under Aquixalus odontotarsus) including photographs of specimens. Li, Zhao, and Dong, 2010, Amph. Rept. Tibet: 71-72, provided an account (as Philautus odontotarsus) for Xizang, China. Li, Chen, Li, Lv, and Wang, 2011, Asian Herpetol. Res., Ser. 2, 2: 135, provided photographs of the holotype.
