Related to Philautus carinensis (now Kurixalus carinensis) according to Hu and Tian in Yang, Su, and Li, 1979, Acta Zootaxon. Sinica, 4: 186, and Hu and Tian in Hu, Tian, and Wu, 1981, Acta Herpetol. Sinica, Chengdu, 5 (17): 116, who redescribed this taxon as new. Fei, 1999, Atlas Amph. China: 254-255, provided a brief account, figure, and map. Orlov, Lathrop, Murphy, and Ho, 2001, Russ. J. Herpetol., 8: 19, listed this species as part of the Vietnam fauna. Zhang and Wen, 2000, Amph. Guangxi: 122, provided an account for Guangxi. See photograph in Orlov, Ho, and Nguyen, 2004, Russ. J. Herpetol., 11: 61. Nguyen, Ho, and Nguyen, 2005, Checklist Amph. Rept. Vietnam: 35, provided specific localities for Vietnam. Li, Che, Bain, Zhao, and Zhang, 2008, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 48: 302-312, placed Philautus jinxiuensis as the sister taxon of Gracixalus as the sister taxon of Gracixalus gracilipes, but refrained from transferring the species to Gracixalus. Yu, Rao, Zhang, and Yang, 2009, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 50: 571-579, made the formal taxonomic change. Yang, 2008, in Yang and Rao (ed.), Amph. Rept. Yunnan: 103, provided a brief account for Yunnan, China. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 525. Hendrix, Nguyen, Böhme, and Ziegler, 2008, Herpetol. Notes, 1: 23-31, reported a specimen, very similar to this species, from Quang Binh Province, central Vietnam. Fei, Hu, Ye, and Huang, 2009, Fauna Sinica, Amph. 2: 683-686, provided an account (as Aquixalus jinxiuensis) for China, illustration of the holotype, and spot map. Li, Che, Murphy, Zhao, Zhao, Rao, and Zhang, 2009, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 53: 520, suggested that the material of Philautus jinxiuensis reported by Nguyen, Hendrix, Böhme, Vu, and Ziegler, 2008, Zootaxa, 1925: XXX, are actually, Gracixalus carinense. Fei, Ye, and Jiang, 2010, Colored Atlas of Chinese Amph.: 428, provided a brief account (as Aquixalus jinxiuensis) for China including photographs of specimens. Li, Chen, Li, Lv, and Wang, 2011, Asian Herpetol. Res., Ser. 2, 2: 136, provided photographs of the holotype.
