Atelopus mittermeieri Acosta-Galvis, Rueda-Almonacid, Velásquez-Álvarez, Sánchez-Pacheco, and Peña-Prieto, 2006, Rev. Acad. Colomb. Cienc. Exact. Fis. Nat., 30: 281. Holotype: ICN 52.993, by original designation. Type locality: "Colombia, Departamento de Santander, vertiente occidental de la Cordillera Oriental, Municipio de El Encino, Santuario de Flora y Fauna Guanentá-Alto Río Fonce, vereda Río Nego, quebrada Aguas Claras, 6° 14′ latitud N, 72° 56′ longitud W, 2525 msnm".

Distribution

Known only from the type locality (Municipio de El Encino, Santuario de Flora y Fauna Guanentá-Alto Río Fonce) on the western slope of the Cordillera Oriental of Santander Department, northeastern Colombia, 2525 m elevation.
