Philautus cherrapunjiae Roonwal and Kripalani, 1966 "1961", Rec. Indian Mus., 59: 326. Holotype: ZSIC 20806, by original designation. Type locality: "vicinity of the Circuit House near Cherrapunji . . . . (Khasi-Jaintia Hills District, Assam), Lat. 25° 15′ N, and Long. 91° 44′ E, altitude above mean sea level 4369 ft. or ca. 1330 metres", India.

Khasi Hills of Meghalaya, and Namdapha Biosphere Reserve in Arunachal Pradesh, northeastern India.
Comment
Dubois, 1999, J. South Asian Nat. Hist., 4: 8, noted that this taxon cannot be a member of Philautus because it was reported in the original publication as having a free tadpole. Chanda, 2002, Handb. Indian Amph.: 152, provided a brief account. Likely be a member of Rhacophorus according to Wilkinson, Win, Thin, Lwin, Shein, and Tun, 2003, Proc. California Acad. Sci., Ser. 4, 54: 17-23. Dutta, 1997, Amph. India Sri Lanka: 76, provided relevant literature and range. Sarkar and Ray, 2006, In Alfred (ed.), Fauna of Arunachal Pradesh, Part 1: 307-308, provided a brief account for Arunachal Pradesh. Mathew and Sen, 2010, Pict. Guide Amph.
