Comment
Contains only the genus Buergeria, which Channing, 1989, S. Afr. J. Zool., 24: 116-131, considered to be the sister-taxon of the remaining rhacophorids. Blommers-Schlösser, 1993, Ethol. Ecol. Evol., 5: 199-203, criticized aspects of Channing's (1989) analysis, suggested that Buergeriinae was not monophyletic and retained Aglyptodactylus (now in Mantellidae) in Rhacophorinae. Wilkinson, Drewes, and Tatum, 2002, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 24: 265-273, and Li, Che, Bain, Zhao, and Zhang, 2008, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 48: 302-312, found Buergeriinae to be the sister-taxon of the remaining rhacophorids, and together with that group, the sister taxon of the mantellines. This was also confirmed by Pyron and Wiens, 2011, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 61: 543-583, in their molecular tree based on Genbank sequences. In other words, the preponderance of molecular evidence supports in general outline the analysis of morphology by Channing.
