Distribution

Northern Borneo in the hilly forests of Sabah and Sarawak (Malaysia), Brunei, and northeastern Kalimantan (Indonesia), up to 2000 m elevation.

Staurois parvus was removed; without discussion, from the synonymy of Staurois tuberilinguis by Dubois, 1992, Bull. Mens. Soc. Linn. Lyon, 61: 334. Mount Kinabalu: 172-174, provided an account (in the sense of including Staurois parvus). See statement of geographic range, habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 634. Das, 2007, Amph. Rept. Brunei: 68, provided a photograph and brief account. Arifin, Iskandar, Bickford, Brown, Meier, and Kutty, 2011, Zootaxa, 2744: 39-52, provided molecular evidence suggestive of the existence of two cryptic species.
