Removed from the synonym of Ixalus natator by XXX, where it had been placed by Boulenger, 1882, Cat. Batr. Sal. Coll. Brit. Mus., Ed. 2: 71; Inger, 1954, Fieldiana, Zool., 33: 335; and Inger, 1966, Fieldiana, Zool., 52: 245-246. Das, Jankowski, Makmor, and Haas, 2007, Mitt. Hamburg. Zool. Mus. Inst., 104: 161, provided a brief description. Das, 2007, Amph. Rept. Brunei: 66, provided a photograph and brief account. Bornean population of Staurois natator (presumably = Staurois guttatus) discussed by Inger, 1966, Fieldiana, Zool., 52: 245-250. Arifin, Iskandar, Bickford, Brown, Meier, and Kutty, 2011, Zootaxa, 2744: 39-52, noted that molecular evidence is suggestive of two cryptic species.
