Distribution
Sierra Nevada of California and extreme western Nevada (near Lake Tahoe), 4500-1200 ft. elevation south to its type locality in Inyo County, California, USA.

Removed from the synonymy of Rana muscosa by Vredenburg, Bingham, Knapp, Morgan, Moritz, and Wake, 2007, J. Zool., London, 271: 370, where it had been placed by Zweifel, 1955, Univ. California Publ. Zool., 54: 229. See comment under Rana muscosa. Vredenburg, Bingham, Knapp, Morgan, Moritz, and Wake, 2007, J. Zool., London, 271: 361-374, discussed the systematics of this species and its disappearance from large parts of its former range.
